Brussels explosions: Death toll reaches 31

The death toll of Brussels terrorist explosions on Tuesday has reached 31 while 260 others injured but officials say the death toll could rise

On Wednesday, the Belgian federal prosecutor confirmed Khalid el-Bakraoui was the suicide bomber in the metro attack, the BBC reported.

His brother Brahim was identified as one of three suspects caught on CCTV at Zaventem airport shortly before the explosions.

The third man, pictured wearing a hat, was said to have fled the scene without detonating his explosive device. He remains on the run and police have launched a manhunt to find him.

Belgian media identified him as Najim Laachraoui - named earlier in the week as an accomplice of Abdeslam - but this has not been confirmed by officials.

The federal prosecutor said police found a note written by Brahim el-Bakraoui that said: "I don't know what to do, I am in a hurry, I am on the run, people are looking for me everywhere and if I give myself up I will end up in a cell." 

Belgium raised its terror threat to its highest level following Tuesday's attacks.
