Chile's government on Sunday rejected the violent actions during the celebration of the Chilean team's victories in Brazil 2014 and called the people to celebrate in a peaceful environment in the future.
"It is necessary to define that most of the Chileans have celebrated in a peaceful and family environment but unfortunately some have participated in the violent actions we strongly reject," said Alvaro Elizalde, Spokesman of the Chilean government.
The victory of Chile against Spain, by which Chile qualified to the World Cup's second round, was massively celebrated by the Chilean people in the country's largest cities.
The most serious incidents occurred in Santiago, where six people were injured and more than 200 public buses were damaged. More than 100 people were arrested.
Elizalde said the government will reinforce the security plan towards the match between Chile and the Netherlands to be played on Monday.
"We will reinforce the security measures though it is impossible to have one police officer aside of each citizen," said Elizalde.
The spokesman said "we again call the people to celebrate in a cheerful and peaceful environment. Citizens should be responsible." Elizalde added that the people who participate in violent actions will be criminally prosecuted.
"We reject all the violent actions especially the ones against the public transportation workers," said Elizalde.
Due to last Wednesday riots, the public transportation workers announced they will paralyze their work on Monday during the Chile-Netherlands match.
