The death toll from a building collapse in the Indian capital Saturday night has risen to five as rescuers continued to search for possible survivors in the debris of the four-story house, said police Sunday.
The building caved in at Vishnu Garden in west Delhi Saturday night, killing two on the spot and trapping at least dozens of others.
Thirteen people were seriously injured in the incident.
Delhi's Public Works Department Minister Satyendra Jain Sunday also announced a 200,000 rupee (3,125 U.S. dollars) compensation for the families of the dead and 50,000 rupees (781 U.S. dollars) for those of the injured.
"A magisterial probe has been ordered to find out the actual culprit," Jain told the media while seeing the rescue work on the site.
Police suspect the building, located in a narrow lane, was illegally built, but other reports said a nearby construction site was the cause of the collapse.
Building collapse takes place from time to time in Indian cities.
Last April, a three-story residential building collapsed in Delhi's Moti Nagar area after an explosion of gas cylinder, killing one person and injuring eight others.
