The death toll in Sunday evening's stampede in the north-Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has reached 36, reported the "Times Now" TV channel. The stampede had occurred at a railway station in the state's Allahabad city. More than 30 persons who were injured in the incident have been admitted in a city government hospital. The stampede had occurred when a part of over-bridge collapsed triggering panic among the public. Around 30 million people had congregated in the city to take the holy dip in the G anges River. The congregation was a part of the 40-day long "Kumbh Mela" festival, considered auspicious for bathing in the holy river. The Uttar Pradesh state government has announced monetary compensation of USD 9,090 for the families of the dead, and USD 1,800 for those injured, and also instituted an inquiry to find out the reason of the stampede.
