An Emirati woman, in her forties, succumbed to injuries she received in a horrific traffic accident on the Al Julan road in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations room, RAK police, said the accident took place on Saturday at 6.40pm.

After being informed about the accident, the central operations room of the RAK Police swung into action. Traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams were dispatched to the site.

"Initial enactment of the accident showed that it was caused due to speeding by the woman's car and entering a main road without checking if it was clear first, as was the case in similar accidents over the last two weeks."

Fortunately, the driver of the other car, who was driving on the correct lane on the main road, did not sustain any serious injuries. "The paramedics and rescue teams tried their best to save the life of the victim, but she succumbed to the injuries and died on the spot."

Brig. Humaidi urged all drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations to ensure road users' safety and theirs. "Drivers should be more attentive on the road and observe speed limits."

Few days ago, a 21-year-old Emirati man was killed in a road accident. The victim lost control over the steering wheel, veered off the road, and fell off a steep cliff.

Also, two Emirati nationals received serious injuries in a four-car pile-up accident on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road late. "The accident was blamed on speeding and the drivers' failure to leave due safety space."
