An Ottawa jury has found a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer guilty in the first degree stabbing murder of a city policeman in 2009. The 8-man, 4-woman jury deliberated for more than nine hours Tuesday night before finding Kevin Gregson guilty after a trial that lasted two weeks, the Ottawa Citizen reported. He receives an automatic life sentence with no parole for 25 years for attacking and fatally stabbing Ottawa Constable Eric Czapnik as he sat in his cruiser filling out reports outside the Ottawa Hospital\'s Civic campus early Dec. 29, 2009. Gregson testified he approached the 51-year-old Czapnik and demanded his gun so he could go home and kill himself. The officer refused and the two men began fighting. Four paramedics nearby managed to pull Gregson off Czapnik, who ran into the emergency department with fatal stab wounds to his neck. Gregson said he was depressed after being dismissed from the RCMP and financial stresses. The court heard when he was arrested, Gregson was wearing two body armor vests and was carrying a BB gun, two knives and handcuffs.
