
As of Tuesday morning, heavy rain in northern Vietnam's Quang Ninh province, some 120 km east of capital Hanoi, has left six people dead and six others missing, according to the provincial steering committee of flood and storm control, search and rescue.
According to Quang Ninh's hydro-meteorological station, this is the heaviest rain occurring in the province in the past 40 years, which is entering the fourth day with precipitation exceeding 500 mm.
In addition to casualties, the rain also caused severe damage to properties, said the committee, adding that as of Tuesday morning, across the province, eight houses have been collapsed, over 2,830 houses have been flooded, some 143 hectares of crops were destroyed while 880 aquaculture cages were swept away.
Total damage is estimated to reach over 200 billion Vietnamese dong (10.18 million U.S. dollars).
Quang Ninh's hydro-meteorological station forecast that there will be rain and heavy rain in the province till the end of July.
