
There was a household gas explosion in a five-storey apartment building in the city of Murmansk, northwest of Russia, early on Tuesday.
“Preliminary reports suggest that the fourth and fifth floors were damaged,” the police said.
Emergency services, specialists with a sniffer dog were dispatched to the scene: eyewitnesses said that people were under the debris.
Later, the rescuers discovered the body of a man injured by the explosion. According to the local office of the Emergencies Ministry, the injured had his legs stuck under the debris. He then was taken out and rushed to hospital. The man was alert.
The explosion occurred on Tuesday on 65 Nevsky Street. The fourth and the fifth floors partly collapsed. According to preliminary reports, three apartments have been destroyed. The situation is complicated because the house is quite old: it was built in the 1950s. The emergency occurred early in the morning, while the residents were asleep. The emergency call was registered at 06:46 local time.
The people who were in the house have been evacuated, and psychologists are currently providing aid.
