IAEA: Iran must assure nuke work peaceful

The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog called on Iran to be more forthcoming Monday to ensure its program is exclusively for peaceful purposes. \"Iran is not providing the necessary cooperation to enable the agency to provide credible assurance about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran, and therefore to conclude that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities,\" Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said in introductory remarks at the agency\'s board of governors meeting in Vienna. \"I urge Iran to take steps towards the full implementation of all relevant obligations in order to establish international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear program,\" Amano said. Western governments believe Iran\'s nuclear program is to develop nuclear weapon capabilities but Iranian leaders maintain it is for peaceful purposes. No headway was made in recent meetings of Iranian negotiators and negotiators from Britain, the United States, China, France, Germany and Russia. Iran rejected calls to cease enriching uranium that could be used for weapons and the other six countries said they wouldn\'t end economic sanctions on Iran.
