India announces election dates for 5 states

The Election Commission of India on Friday announced that elections for five Indian states would begin in the first week of November. The chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said in a press statement the voting would be held in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram assemblies in a phased wise manner. The commissioner said the polling in the five states will be start from November 11 and will conclude on December 4, adding, the counting of votes would be carried out on December 4. Around 110 million voters will cast their votes in the five states for assembly polls, election commission said. The polls in capital Delhi will be held on December 4 while the voters in the northeastern state of Mizoram would cast their votes on December 4. The polls in the central state of Chhattisgarh would be held in two phases, November 11 and November 19. Voting in another central state of Madhya Pradesh will be held on November 25. The election commissionestressed that all measures have been taken to ensure free and fair polls in all the five states. The commission said special monitoring teams have been formed to observe the polls.
