
The confirmed death toll rose to nine in a building collapse in the southern Indian city of Chennai, with 25 people still feared trapped in the debris, reports said Sunday, according to dpa.
At least 27 people had been rescued from the rubble of the 11-storey building that collapsed suburb Saturday, NDTV news channel reported.
Most of the victims were reportedly construction workers. Some passersby had also taken shelter at the site from a heavy rainstorm when the accident occurred on Saturday evening.
Two people from the construction company in charge of the building project had been arrested, police said.
