Indian supreme court to hear plea by Mumbai attacker Monday

The Indian Supreme Court will hear on Monday the plea of Mumbai attacks convict Amir Ajmal Kasab challenging his conviction and death sentence in the 2008 Mumbai attacks case, reported the Press Trust of India on Sunday. Kasab, the lone survivor of 10 terrorists who staged the attacks in November 2008 in the Indian financial capital which killed 170, has filed the petition through jail authorities in the apex court, said the report. A bench of justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai will hear the appeal. The Bombay high court had in a verdict in February upheld the trial court order of death sentence of Kasab for the \"brutal and diabolical\" attacks aimed at \"destabilizing\" the government. Kasab was convicted in May last year of criminal conspiracy, waging war against the nation, murder and unlawful activities.
