A passenger jet crash near Tehran's Mehrabad airport left 37 dead, with an additional 11 injured. Earlier reports had put the death toll as high as 48.
The small passenger jet, an Antonov 140 headed for the eastern city of Tabas, crashed into the wall of a warehouse shortly after take-off. The crash was attributed to engine failure, dpa reported.
The accident occurred in the military area of the airport, near the residential area of Asadi. A nearby highway was heavy with traffic at the time of the crash, but initial reports indicate that no one there was injured.
Three survivors had been rushed to the hospital.
