Jammeh re-elected president of the Republic of Gambia

Yahya Jammeh is re-elected President of the Republic of Gambia, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Gambia announced it on Friday. This year\'s election is the forth one of its genre after two years\' military rule in this western African country from July 1994 to 1996. Nearly 800.000 voters were registered to cast their ballots. According to the head of the IEC in Gambia, Alhagie Mustapha Carayol, Jammeh emerged as the winner of the November 24 presidential elections with 76 percent. Jammeh was elected President for the first time in 1996, then reelected in 2001 and in 2006. From the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Re-Orientation and Construction, he was elected for the fourth time as the president of the west African country. So far, both national and international observers have accepted the result. Ousainou Darboe, the United Democratic Party candidate, who refused to answer questions from journalists, has asked the observers not to accept the results yet, noting that it is fraudulent.
