Budapest police on Saturday said they had arrested two men after a Jewish community leader was attacked. The president of a local branch of the Budapest Jewish Faith Community, Andras Kerenyi, was verbally and physically assaulted after leaving a synagogue late on Friday, according to a statement on the Budapest police website. The men were later detained and charged with violent assault against a member of a community group. Kerenyi suffered only minor injuries during the attack and did not require hospital treatment. Gusztav Zoltai, the director of the Alliance of Hungarian Jewish Faith Communities, told Hungarian state news agency MTI that Kereneyi was kicked in the stomach by the assailants who shouted "rotten filthy Jews, you will all die". Earlier this year, Hungary's Chief Rabbi Jozsef Schweitzer was verbally abused on a Budapest street by an assailant who told him: "I loathe all Jews". Ahram online
