Beijing - XINHUA

Nearly 200 were killed and more than 10,000 others injured in the devastating earthquake that hit Lushan County two weeks ago. With the rescue operations now over, families have more time to mull over what they have lost. CCTV reporter Nie Jia visited one such family to find out what life has been like after the quake that changed their lives. Every day, relief supply distribution is a major event at relocation sites in Lushan county. All quake victims form a line and wait to get their supply. But there is one survivor that doesn’t have to wait. Before the earthquake, Yang Yebin was a handicapped migrant worker in Beijing. His wife runs a grocery store in Lushan County. When the earthquake struck, his wife was hit by falling wooden beams and never woke up again trying to protect their 7-year-old son. Because of this, Yang and his son have been given special treatment at the shelter. Loads of foods, beverages and quilts fill his tent. Yang Yebin said, \"The government gives us 10 yuan and 1 kilo rice per person each day, and my son is taken care of by my relatives. This takes care of my needs presently.\" When Yang first learned of his wife’s death, he was so grief stricken that he could barely speak. Police officers retrieved 6,000 yuan in the debris of his collapsed store and donated 1,000 yuan to him. But none of these could soothe the pain of losing his wife. And a special police therapist was arranged to give him counseling. Li Sizhe, Therapist, Mianyang Police Bureau, said, \"In our previous communication, I found that whenever I mentioned his wife, Yang would always shun the conversation. I think he needs more counseling than his son.\" Faced with the sudden tragedy of losing one’s most beloved ones, the pain and sorrow is unimaginable. Yang Yebin said, \"My wife sacrificed her life to save our son. I really can’t handle such pain. What is the point of living without her? How can I make a living in the future to support my son? I really don’t know.\" Yang says his only hope right now is his son. He hopes that he can become a useful person. This will be the biggest comfort to his wife in heaven.
