NATO troop killed in Afghanistan

One soldier of the NATO-led coalition or International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday.
"An International Security Assistance Force service member died of wounds as a result of an attack in eastern Afghanistan today," the ISAF said in a statement issued here.
The brief statement gave neither the nationality of the victim nor the details about the incident under the ISAF policy, only saying "it is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."
Earlier on the day, an unidentified man attacked with knife on a foreigner in Afghan capital of Kabul and attempted to behead him. The foreigner, who got serious wound was shifted to a nearby hospital.
Kabul is located in eastern Afghanistan. However, it is not known at this span of time whether the two attacks were related.
The death has brought to 58 the number of foreign soldiers have been killed in the country so far this year.
More than 44,000 NATO-led ISAF troops, down from the peak of 130,000 in 2010, are stationed in Afghanistan. Some 30,700 of them are Americans and the United States plans to trim its forces to less than 10,000 next year.
