North Korea confirms detention of American citizen

North Korea confirmed on Saturday that it has detained a U.S. citizen for "hostile acts" against the state and released his apology for the crimes he allegedly committed during the 1950-53 Korean War. Merrill Newman, a 85-year-old veteran of the Korean War from Palo Alto in northern California, has been held by authorities in Pyongyang since Oct. 26. He was visiting North Korea on a tourist visa.
