
White House announced that President Barack Obama told the congressional leaders that he has the authority needed to take actions to confront the threat of the Islamic State (IS).
A statement issued by the White House cited that "the president has told the leaders that he has the authority he needs to take actions against the (IS) organization according to the plan which he is going to explain in his speech on Wednesday night."
According to the statement, "Obama agreed with the congressional leaders for their support for efforts to weaken and destroy the Islamic State organization eventually."
Obama said that "the nation will be stronger and more effective when the president and Congress work together to combat the threat to the national security, such as the Islamic State."
An official, who attended the meeting, quoted the House Speaker, John Boehner, his express to "support options proposed by Obama, including" increased support for the Iraqi forces and the processing of some groups in the Syrian opposition with weapons, ".
