One person was killed and 14 were injured in separate traffic accidents that took place in Dubai since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Brigadier General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of general department of traffic at Dubai Police, said that one person succumbed to severe injuries when his vehicle collided with a truck on Emirates Road near Al Maktoum Airport at 3:30am last Friday.

According to the police, lack of attention and speeding caused the strong collision between the vehicles. While the driver of the vehicle died on the spot, three people who sustained moderate injuries were taken to hospital for treatment. The first vehicle was severely damaged and the second car damaged partially.

Brig Al Mazrouei added that the second incident occurred in the International City at 2am on Friday when a vehicle collided with a bicycle driven by an Asian who was seriously injured and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

He explained that the third accident took place at the Dubai Media City near Media Hotel at 5:15am, where a Range Rover hit a bicycle. An Asian was severely injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He added that another accident happened behind the Iranian Consulate at 10:15pm on Saturday. One person was seriously injured as a result of the run over accident. The investigation showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the person who was standing on the pavement. The injured was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Saif Al Mazrouei said that the fifth incident was a collision between two buses at the intersection of Oasis Centre and Al Quoz cemetery at 5:15 am on Sunday. A school bus and a van carrying workers collided when one of the buses jumped the red signal. As a result, eight people sustained from medium to minor injuries.

He appealed to road users to abide by traffic laws and avoid reckless driving and crossing red signal or overtaking road shoulder which are not in line with the concept of modern day driving etiquette. He urged motorists to cooperate with the police not to endanger theirs as well as others' lives.
