Aircraft of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) took off early on Wednesday to continue the search for a Mi-8 helicopter that went missing in the republic of Tyva, East Siberia, on October 10.
More than 32,000 square kilometers have been examined as the search enters its sixth day, said Luiza Sevil, spokesperson for EMERCOM’s department in Tuva.
The radio contact with the helicopter of Tyva-Avia Airline with 12 people on board was lost when it was on the way between the communities of Sorug and Kyzyl, located 270 kilometres away from each other.
According to the crisis centre in Kyzyl, four aircraft and three ground teams will continue the search on Wednesday, concentrating mainly on the Myunski pass towards which the helicopter was supposedly flying.
Local eyewitnesses saw it on October 10 flying in that direction amid strong winds. The searched zone has rugged topography.
