Colombo - Xinhua
Sri Lanka\'s war report on the three decade ethnic conflict was presented to the parliament making it a public document on Friday, a spokesman said. Leader of the House Nimal Siripala de Silva on behalf of the ruling government presented the report prepared by eight-member Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) collecting information by way of petitions, interviews and discussion over a period of two years. The 400-page report had been handed over to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Nov. 20. The United Nations and a number of international countries including United States, Britain, Japan and India had earlier stressed the need to release the report soon. Referring to the delay in releasing the report last Friday, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay said she was postponing a visit to Sri Lanka until the release of the report. The Sri Lankan government has promised to undertake investigations recommended by the commission. The eight-member Commission commenced its sessions in August 2010 and has recorded thousands of oral and written submissions from a cross section of society on the period between 2002 and 2009 and completed it on November this year.
