At least four people were killed and several injured after a suicide car bomb targeted a foreign military convoy in the central part of the Afghan capital of Kabul on Tuesday, sources said.
The blast occurred in the morning rush hour in a diplomatic district close to the U.S. embassy, the Afghan Supreme Court and a foreign military camp.
Shortly after the incident, Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban purported spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack.
"The explosion occurred at around 8:10 a.m. (local time). We still cannot provide details on causalities. There is fear of possible causalities, both civilian and military," a security source told Xinhua.
The blast occurred in a four-line street which leads to the Kabul international airport.
The government troops cordoned off the area immediately after the blast.
The blast caused a plume of gray smoke to rise above the scene.
Unofficial sources said that three Afghan civilians and the bomber were killed in the attack while the casualties on the foreign troops remained unknown.
They said 13 civilians were wounded and several military and civilian cars destroyed.
The NATO-led forces told local media that the coalition was currently assessing the incident, adding more information will be released as appropriate.
