Two training planes from Taiwan's Air Force Academy collided during a routine training session on Tuesday, killing one pilot.
The AT-3 trainers, used by the air force's Thunder Tigers aerobatic team, collided at 11:17 a.m., with one of the planes crashing in a field in Zihguan District in Kaohsiung, the Air Force Command Headquarters said.
The pilot of the crashed plane managed to parachute to safety. However, he was rushed to hospital with no vital signs and was pronounced dead after medical treatment failed.
The other plane was not badly damaged in the collision and landed safely back at the academy.
The crash caused no casualties on the ground, according to the military.
