Turkish rescuers recover 2 more bodies from Karaman coal mine

Two bodies of the 16 trapped miners were discovered on Monday 21 days after a coal mine in Ermenek district, Karaman province, central southern Turkey, was inundated by flood water.
Despite mounting challenges, the search and rescue teams continue battling to reach the remaining 14 missing miners, according to a statement by the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
Underground collapses and high rate of coal gas inside the mine hinder the rescue operation, the statement noted.
Flooding on October 28 trapped a total of 18 workers; two of them, identified as Kerim Haznedar and Isa Gozbasi, were found dead on November 6 amid diminishing hope for finding any of the rest alive.
On November 8 law-enforcers arrested seven of eight wanted persons, including three owners of the mine and five engineers, under charges of negligence.
Turkey's worst mine disaster hit on May 13, 2014, when an explosion at Soma coal mine in the western Manisa province caused an underground fire and killed 301 people.
