One soldier of the Turkish security forces was killed and three others injured in clashes with the militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Sunday, said a Turkish military statement.
A group of PKK rebels early Sunday attacked the Turkish troops who were on duty for the security of a dam in Panak village in Kulp town of Diyarbakir province with rocket launchers and long barreled weapons, said the statement released by the Turkish General Staff.
The PKK militants and the Turkish security forces exchanged fire, said the statement, adding that one Turkish soldier was killed and three others injured in the clashes.
Tensions between Turkish security forces and the PKK are increasing after an Islamic State (IS) suicide bombing on July 20 killed 32 people and injured 104 others in the town of Suruc in the Sanliurfa province bordering Syria.
The Turkish authorities have said that security forces had detained over 1,300 individuals with suspected ties to the IS, the PKK and leftist groups, while the military unleashed several rounds of air strikes on PKK posts in northern Iraq.
