A typhoon lashed Japan with torrential rain on Monday
Tokyo - KUNA

Typhoon Phanfone was downgraded to n extratropical cyclone off Japan's Pacific coast on Monday evening, and was moving east-northeast after leaving at least one person dead and six others missing in Japan.
One of the three US military personnel were swept away by high waves in southern Okinawa Prefecture on Sunday was found dead, according to police. The other two US airmen were still missing. The season's 18th tropical storm made landfall in central Japan earlier in the day, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to wide areas including Tokyo, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
Phanfone, which means ''animal'' in Laotian, also injured at least 62 people, according to public broadcaster NHK. In addition, the typhoon damaged at least 32 houses and flooded more than 410 buildings across Japan.
Airlines canceled more than 630 flights on Monday, affecting nearly 70,000 passengers. More than 100 bullet train runs on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line were also suspended, leaving some 135,000 people stranded.
