Death toll caused by heavy rain in northern and central Vietnam's localities has risen to 11, said the country's Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Committee on Tuesday.

According to a report posted on the department's website on Tuesday, as of Monday, flood and landslide triggered by heavy rain, which started since July 31, has caused 11 deaths.

Specifically, two deaths were reported in northern Lai Chau province, two in northern Lang Son province, one in northern Son La province, one in northern Bac Giang province, three in northern Cao Bang province, one in northern Yen Bai province, and one in central Thanh Hoa province.

Meanwhile, 11 others got injured and three remained missing during the flood and landslide, said the report.

Downpours also swept away 122 houses, damaged nearly 200 houses and flooded 3,666 others in these areas.

Some 1,440 hectares of crops and over 10,400 hectares of rice were damaged while 140 small irrigation works were affected, according to the department.

Earlier, heavy rain occurred on July 26 to July 28 in northeastern Quang Ninh province, some 120 km east of capital Hanoi, left 17 dead and six missing.
