Web-cameras to be installed at all Russian polling stations

All Russian polling stations for the March presidential election will be equipped with web-cameras by the end of February, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) Leonid Ivlev said Thursday. "As of Feb. 16, about 40 percent of polling stations have already installed web-cameras," Ivlev was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying. He added that Russia's Far East region of Kamchatka has become the first region where all the polling stations are furnished with web-cameras. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed to install web-cameras at all Russian polling stations in December, following mass protests in the country against alleged vote fraud in the Dec. 4 parliamentary elections. The country will hold the presidential election on March 4, with five candidates vying for the top job. Among the candidates, Putin is widely expected to win.
