The World Food Programme began providing emergency food assistance to about 57.000 people affected by floods in southern Bangladesh. The acting director of the programme in Bangladesh Michael Denford said we have thousands of poor families affected by the floods and still a large number of poor people are stranded on the banks of rivers and cannot get food or shelter. He explained that torrential rains in the area of Satkhira caused floods during the past two weeks and inundation of the area, which suffers from high rates of malnutrition, adding that the programme will continue to monitor the situation and expand its support
