Six UAE men appeal murder charge for stabbing worker

Six men convicted of killing a worker during a mass brawl that resulted from the sale of alcohol have appealed their sentences.  

Official records showed that the Asian men hit the worker along with his two other colleagues with wooden sticks during a brawl near their accommodation camp in Abu Dhabi last year.

They also kicked the Asian man and one of the men stabbed him with a kitchen knife which led to his death. The other two were wounded and treated in the hospital.

Officers earlier said in court that the victims and other men had allegedly gathered in order to take over an area that 'belonged' to another group in order to sell liquor. This led to a fight among the two groups.

Prosecutors had charged the workers with premeditated murder of the worker and assaulting other two men and causing them wounds.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has given a death sentence to one of the men after he was found guilty of murdering the Asian man. The rest of the men were sentenced to jail for involving in a fight that led to worker's death and assaulting his compatriots.

The men however challenged the ruling to the Appeal Court saying they were wrongly convicted and they denied all charges against them.    

The men told court on Thursday that they had no involvement in the man's death and didn't take part in the attacks because they were not around when the murder allegedly took place.

The trial was adjourned until December 12 so that court can speak with the victim's family to see if they can pardon the killers in exchange for blood money.
