UAE men on trial for assault, robbery posing as CID officers

Two Emiratis are on trial in Sharjah for robbing and assaulting people while posing as CID officers.

The Criminal Court of Sharjah is hearing cases of two Emiratis, who posed as CID officers to rob and assault their victims, on public streets industrial areas.

The two accused are already serving six years jail term for similar crimes.

According to police, the accused carried out 20 robberies at night - on the streets - targeting Asians. The accused posed as CID officers and asked their victims about their national IDs. While they removed the ID form their wallet to display the ID, the accused would beat up the victims and steal their wallet.

During the hearing, which was held under the chairmanship of Judge Hussein Al Aswafi, the victim "N" gave his testimony, saying that the incident took place in Sharjah's industrial No. 1 where two people on a motorbike stopped him and presented their ID, claiming they are CID officers.

One of the accused hit him in the chest while the other kicked him and stole his wallet, which contained Dh4,000, bank cards and ID cards.

He added that they didn't let him read the information on their ID cards, to verify that they are CID officers.

In a second incident, the victim said that he was stopped by the accused in Industrial No 7, claiming that they were security men. When he refused to reveal his identity - they assaulted him, tore his shirt and stole his money.

The victims demanded the court for a ruling in their cases, apart from the other cases that they had been sentenced for.
