Ammar Huri Beirut - Riyad Shuman On the seventh anniversary of the Cedar Uprising, Arabstoday met Lebanon's Future Movement (FM) MP Ammar Huri where he spoke about Lebanon and Syria. Huri said the 2005 uprising had succeded by driving the Syrian army out of Lebanon on April 26 that year. The MP also described the current events in Syria as a "crime against a heroic nation", which faced the regime's tanks and missiles "empty-handed". The politician said it wa necessary for Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati's government to resign, calling it "the Syian regime's government in Lebanon in cover of Hezbollah". "It will collapse as soon as the Syrian regime falls, " he said. AT: It's the seventh anniversary of the Cedar Uprising...what did it achieve? AH: The first goal of the uprising was driving the Syrian army out of Lebanon, which we achieved on April 26, 2005. The second was imposing state control all over the country, especially concerning illegal firearms, and some success was achieved there. The third aim, which was not declared, was inspiring the people in this region to revolt against their dictatorship regimes...it has recently happened in several countries, and is about to show its results in Syria. AT: Why are you celebrating the anniversary this year in Al-Bayal Theatre instead of Al-Shohadaa Square? AH: We are doing so to avoid any tension, as we know what happened in the youth protest in Al-Shohadaa Square a few days ago. This year, our celebrations will include the participation of some of the young figures of the March 14 coalition and some civil society organisations.
