The United Arab Emirates
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) attracted about 17.4 million visitors last year, official figures released on Sunday showed, as the UAE looks to reap the rewards of its growing tourism sector.

The World Travel and Tourism Council announced that a total of 17.4 million foreigners headed to the UAE in 2016, an increase of %2.1 compared to the previous year.

The council predicted that the UAE tourism sector will continue its growth in the coming years, pointing out that the UAE pays great interest to the travel industry to diversify the economic resources base, in light of the ongoing and continuous efforts to improve the infrastructure. The council added that the UAE has the largest investments in the tourism industry in the region, ranking among the largest world investment countries in tourism.

On the other hand, many international reports asserted the Emirates’ ability to continue its growth in 2017, despite the ongoing challenges taking place in foreign markets and sharp fluctuations in exchange rates.

Turmoil in most of the traditional tourism destinations across the Middle East appears to have helped the UAE to capitalize on its reputation as a safe haven for tourists and businesses.
