Dr. Khalid Al-Rahal, head of surgery department of Saleh Aziz Institute for treatment of annual diseases, stressed necessary to raise awareness of the importance of combating breast cancer by performing the necessary tests.
Al-Rahal added in statements for Arabs Today that the Tunisian society for the care of breast cancer patients, organized free clinics for testing women in different regions. He stressed that there are specialized doctors in the field who listen to a number of questions about this disease and its causes and provide explanations in this regard.
He pointed out that 20 of these cases require further tests and was directed to the Institute of Saleh Aziz for cancer to follow up and provide treatment for them. Dr. Khalid Al-Rahal, explained the great interest in women's awareness of the importance of detecting this disease and its discovery in its early stages, pointing out that the tests performed by doctors often reveal a number of injuries that are directed to the Saleh Aziz institute for treatment.
He added that the association is working throughout the year to intensify such awareness campaigns through the organization of health convoys to various bodies, especially the internal, to spread the culture of investigation and early detection of the disease, calling on women to the need to self-examination and conduct scans regularly from the age of 50 and age 40 year for women who had cases in their families.
He pointed out that the goal of early detection is to detect the disease in the first phase, where the treatment is easy and the cure rate is high up to 95% in most cases.
Breast cancer in Tunisia is the most prevalent in women, accounting for 30% of the cancer rate affecting women, affecting between 2000 and 2,200 new cases per year, and is likely to reach 4000 cases annually.
