Mufti Shawky Allam strongly condemned the terrorist attack close to the Italian consulate in downtown Cairo on Saturday.
The blast left one person killed and seven other wounded.
In a statement, Allam said that attacking embassies, ambassadors and tourists is forbidden in Islam.
He offered condolences to the family of the killed and hoped speedy recovery for the injured.
