Academica booked a direct passage to the group stage of next season's UEFA Europa League after pulling off a shock 1-0 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the final of the Taca de Portugal. Tomas Marinho scored the only goal in the fourth minute as the unfancied Coimbra-based outfit upset their illustrious hosts to claim their first victory in this competition since 1939. Sporting have nevertheless qualified for the Europa League by dint of their fourth-placed league finish, although defeat today means they will have to play a two-legged qualifier to reach the group stage.
