David Accam scored the only goal for the Chicago Fire as they beat New York City 1-0. Accam's 20th-minute strike was enough to see off City, who were hindered by Andrew Jacobson's 23rd-minute red card.
Friday's other game saw the Colorado Rapids draw 1-1 at home to FC Dallas.
Mauro Diaz put Dallas ahead in the first half, but his side then lost Blas Perez to a red card on the hour mark and, with 11 minutes left, Nick LaBrocca squared things up.
