London - AFP

Great Britain\'s Anna Watkins and Katherine Grainger held off Australia to claim gold in the women\'s double sculls at the Olympics rowing regatta on Friday. Poland, finishing well behind the front two boats, took bronze. The British duo were the crew to beat after setting a new Olympic record in the semi-finals. For 36-year-old Glasgow-born Grainger this was due reward after three Olympic silver medals. Grainger, enveloped in a bearhug by Steve Redgrave, Britain\'s five-time Olympian, after stepping out of the boat, said: \"We knew we had all the goods to perform, so it\'s job well done. \"Of all my medals this is really one for the people - for everyone who has helped me and supported me along the way, from my family, through school, and so on.\" Watkins added: \"I had to ask Katherine if it was all a dream, I can\'t believe it.\" Their win came 48 hours after Heather Stanning and Helen Glover had supplied the host nation\'s first ever women\'s Olympics rowing gold in the pair.
