Perth Glory have moved joint-top of Australia's A-League following a 2-0 win over bottom team Newcastle Jets.
In their first match since Football Federation Australia (FFA) issued the club with a second show-cause notice over alleged salary cap breaches, they fought off the resilient Jets to join Melbourne Victory at the top of the standings. Perth led in the 50th minute via Irishman Andy Keogh's close-range header before substitute Nebojsa Marinkovic secured all the points with a powerful strike in the 84th minute.
Melbourne Victory overpowered Wellington Phoenix 3-0 in New Zealand to claim top spot on goal differential with three games remaining. A powerful strike after 35 seconds from Brazilian Gui Finkler gave Melbourne a 1-0 lead at half-time before Phoenix mistakes allowed in two goals, with an own goal and Archie Thompson's ninth goal of the season.
Adelaide United lie third after a 1-0 away win over Sydney FC with a late Awer Mabil winner.
Melbourne City are sixth and in the box seat to claim the final playoff spot despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Western Sydney on Friday. Japan's Yojiro Takahagi put the Wanderers in front, with Frenchman Harry Novillo levelling for City before the break.
Defending champions Brisbane Roar bounced back to their best with a 6-1 demolition of the Central Coast Mariners. Steve Lustica was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick marked by two long-distance rockets in the first half.
