New York - Arabstoday

The Gambian-born Norway defender Pa Modou Kah, who has spent 14 seasons in Europe and two in the Middle East, signed a one-season deal with Major League Soccer\'s Portland Timbers announced today. Kah joins the Portland side after playing for Al-Kohr and Qatar Sports Club in the 2011-2012 campaign and for Saudi Arabian side Al-Wahda this past season. The 32-year-old veteran arrives as Timbers seek help in defence. USA defender David Horst will miss at least the next six months with a broken right leg and former French international Mikael Silvestre was carried off in a stretcher on Thursday with an unknown injury. \"With the loss of David Horst, we have had our eye on adding another central defender for the past month,\" Timbers coach Caleb Porter said. \"Kah is a top-level player and will bring a wealth of experience as a professional, playing in some of the top leagues around the world. \"This signing couldn\'t come at a better time with the recent injury of Mikael Silvestre. We expect Kah to step into the backline and make an immediate impact in our club.\" Kah won a title with Norway\'s Valerenga in 2002 before joining Sweden\'s AIK in 2003 and Dutch side Roda JC in 2004, where he scored 12 goals in 189 appearances before moving to Qatar in 2011.
