
Atletico Madrid defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in a derby match at Santiago Bernabeu stadium, amid the third round of the Spanish premier "La Liga." Reigning La Liga champions Atletico took an early lead as Tiago Mendes headed the ball in from a corner kick in the 10th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo, on his return from injury, scored a penalty he had won to bring the teams level at the 26th minute.
In the second half, Atletico, who had to resist plenty of home pressure, won the game courtesy of Arda Turan's neat finish at the 76th minute.
Real Madrid huffed and puffed for the remaining 14 minutes, but the Atletico held firm.
