Bo Bae Ki won a shootoff with Mexico\'s Aida Roman Thursday and captured the Olympic gold medal in women\'s individual archery. Ki, making her Olympic debut at age 24 after winning a World Cup title earlier this year, survived a poor attempt in the one extra shot that decided the championship and received her second gold medal of the Olympics. She was a member of the South Korean squad that claimed the team gold medal earlier in the Olympics. Ki was the first to shoot in overtime and scored a disappointing eight with that arrow. Given a great chance at victory and an enormous upset, Roman also scored an eight and her arrow finished farther from the center of the target than did Ki\'s. Roman had to settle for the silver medal and the bronze went to another Mexican archer, Mariana Avitia. Mexico had not won two medals in the same Olympic event since Ernesto Canto and Raul Gonzalez had finished 1-2 in the 20-kilometer race walk at the Los Angeles Games in 1984. Khatuna Lorig continued a string of near misses for the United States. She reached the semifinals before losing twice and finishing fourth. American athletes finished fourth in five different events around the Olympics on Wednesday.
