Tottenham Hotspur saw off AC Milan 2-0 in a third-place play-off at the Audi Cup pre-season tournament in Munich on Wednesday in their final outing before their Premier League opener at Manchester United this weekend.
After a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino would have wanted his side to finish pre-season on a high and they saw off the fallen Italian giants with relative ease at the Allianz Arena.
A fantastic first-half strike from Belgian international Nacer Chadli set the north London club on their way before academy product Tom Carroll sealed victory with a beautiful curled shot 19 minutes from time.
It was an excellent response from Spurs -- who finished fifth in the Premier League last season -- after their defeat to ten-time European champions Real and a performance which will give them confidence ahead of Saturday's trip to Old Trafford.
Milan, who finished tenth in Serie A last term meaning they missed out on European football for the upcoming season, get their campaign underway on August 23 at Fiorentina.
Real Madrid take on hosts Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup final later on Wednesday.
