San Jose Earthquakes suffered their first loss in Major League Soccer since 27 May on Tuesday night, going down 2-1 against the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field. Danny Mwanga and Jack Jewsbury both scored their first goals of the season to put Portland in the ascendancy, with Alan Gordon\'s 74th-minute consolation strike not enough to prevent the Earthquakes - who headed into the match on a three-game winning streak - from slipping to defeat. Also on Tuesday, the Houston Dynamo and the Chicago Fire battled out a 0-0 draw at BBVA Compass Stadium in a match where clear-cut chances were at a premium. The teams managed only three shots on target between them and remained in fifth and fourth place respectively in the Eastern Conference standings.
