San Antonio Spurs point guard Patty Mills will lead the Australian men’s basketball team at the Olympics in the absence of injured Andrew Bogut, while Lauren Jackson and the women’s team will be hunting for an elusive gold at London. The Australian Olympic Committee said the men’s team named on Friday brings together one of its strongest Olympic contingents, with players drawn from leagues in the United States, Spain, Greece, Italy and Australia. The notable omission is Golden State Warriors centre Bogut, who is recovering from an ankle injury that will keep him off the court at least until mid-August.“While we will definitely miss Bogut, it is pleasing to see Patty’s development and it is great to see him doing well for the Australian team as we run a similar system to his NBA team, which should make him more comfortable with us at the Olympics,” said Australia coach Brett Brown, an assistant with the Spurs.from gulfnews.com
