Mike Leake took a shutout into the ninth inning before giving up a home run Friday, and lifted the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-1 victory over San Francisco. Leake (3-5) went the distance for the first time in his career and now has one more home run than complete games. He hit a solo homer in the sixth for the second in his three major league seasons. After failing to record a decision in four of his previous five starts, Leake worked in and out of trouble throughout the contest Friday. Leake was sent out in the ninth in a bid to get the shutout and he retired pinch-hitter Emmanuel Burris on a line drive back to the mound. Pablo Sandoval then ended the shutout bid with a homer to right on an 0-1 pitch. Leake retired the next two batters to get his complete game. San Francisco managed nine hits off Leake, who threw 111 pitches. Zack Cozart homered for Cincinnati in the first and Jay Bruce drove in two runs with doubles in both the first and seventh. Matt Cain (9-3), in his third start since throwing a perfect game June 13, gave up five runs on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.
