World number one and reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic was confirmed on Wednesday as top seed in the men’s singles at the US Open which starts on Monday. Djokovic, a three-time Grand Slam champion, but who is seeking his first US Open title, is the No. 1 seed at the tournament for the first time. He will be followed by No. 2 Rafael Nadal, the defending champion; No. 3 Roger Federer of Switzerland, a five-time US Open winner and No. 4 Andy Murray of Great Britain, the 2008 runner-up. Djokovic holds a 57-2 record leading up to this year’s US Open. He has won nine titles this year, including five Masters events, along with his second Australian Open and first Wimbledon titles. The Serbian is a two-time US Open runner-up, losing to Nadal last year and to Federer in 2007. For the first time in his career, Mardy Fish will be the highest-seeded American at No. 8 with 2003 champion Andy Roddick seeded at 21.
