Hamilton turns down offer from Rangers

The Texas Rangers announced Friday outfielder Josh Hamilton has turned down their one-year, $13.3 million qualifying offer. Hamilton is now free to sign with any club in baseball, although the Rangers will continue their attempts to come to terms with the 2010 American League MVP. If Hamilton and the Rangers cannot reach an agreement, Texas will receive compensation in the form of a draft pick. Hamilton was one of a group of players turning down qualifying offers Friday. B.J. Upton declined his offer from Tampa Bay after hitting 28 homers with the Rays this year. New York pitchers Hiroki Kuroda and Rafael Soriano and outfielder Nick Swisher of the Yankees also turned down their one-year offers.
