Shin wins LPGA marathon playoff

Jiyai Shin used a par on the first playoff hole Monday, but ninth playoff hole overall, to defeat Paula Creamer and win the Kingsmill Championship in Virginia. Shin and Creamer entered a playoff Sunday after finishing 72 holes at 16-under-par 268. They returned to the 18th hole and traded sudden-death pars eight times before play was suspended Sunday because of darkness. Shin didn\'t waste time Monday, posting a par on the par-4 16th hole while Creamer settled for bogey and second place in the tournament. Shin had a two-putt for par, finishing with a 2-footer, while Creamer had a 6-foot par try lip out. It was the ninth LPGA title for Shin but first since she won the Mizuno Classic in November 2010. She picked up $195,000 with the Kingsmill title, pushing her past the $5 million mark for her career. Shin had pars on the par-4, 382-yard 18th hole each of the four rounds of regulation and again through the eight playoff holes in Sunday\'s playoff. Creamer had pars in the first three rounds but slipped to a bogey in her 72nd hole of the tournament that led to the playoff. Karine Icher and Danielle Kang tied for third in the tournament at 14-under while Catriona Matthew and Angela Stanford were both 13-under for a tie for fifth.
